Plokk is a block puzzle about making space. You place a shape, clear a line, and look for a good home for the next piece. The rules are easy to pick up; learning to read the board is what makes another run interesting.
You can play Plokk in your browser or get the Windows version from its Microsoft Store listing. Start with a regular game while you get comfortable. There is no timer to race, so give yourself a moment before each move.
The three things to know
Every square of a shape needs to fit. Drag a piece from the tray onto empty cells on the board. A gap that looks large enough may still be the wrong shape: check the whole piece before placing it.
Complete rows and columns clear away. Fill a horizontal row or a vertical column to remove it. A move that completes more than one line creates a combo. Clearing lines is useful for both your score and the space it gives back.
Your open space is a resource. Filling cells makes progress, but scattered single-cell gaps are hard to use. The best-looking move is not always the one that leaves the best board.

Read the space and the piece together.
- The left column has five empty cells between existing blocks.
- The five-block piece on the right fits that gap. Filling it completes the column.
Look at the whole tray first
It is tempting to place the first block that fits. Pause and check the other offered pieces too. A small piece may have several homes, while a bulky piece only has one.
Try this before placing anything:
- Find the most awkward shape in the tray.
- Check where it could fit on the current board.
- Look for a row or column you could clear to create another option.
- Choose a placement that still leaves room for the other pieces.
This will not predict the next tray, but it can stop you from making the current one impossible to finish.
These diagrams illustrate the game position above. A useful clear gives space back as well as adding to your score.
Give your empty spaces a job
Keep a longer lane for straight pieces and a compact pocket for wider shapes. You do not need a perfectly tidy board; you need useful empty areas.
An isolated hole surrounded by blocks is less useful than the same empty cell attached to a larger space. Before you place a piece, check whether it breaks a good pocket into several awkward ones.
Take the clear when it helps
A simple line clear can be better than waiting for a spectacular combo. If a clear opens room for the remaining shapes, it has already done something valuable.
Look for intersecting rows and columns when the board is comfortable. When it is crowded, focus on making the next safe placement possible.
Your first goal: a board you can read
Instead of chasing the leaderboard immediately, aim for a run where you understand why the board filled up. Did a large shape lose its only home? Did you build a pocket with no entrance? Did you ignore a clear because you wanted a bigger score?
Pick one habit for your next run. Keeping a compact area open is a good starting point. Once the basics feel familiar, try the daily challenge: everyone gets the same daily puzzle to compare.
